A senior USAID official has been put on leave, after sending a memo warning that the agency’s dismantling could cause as many as 166 thousand more malaria deaths and up to 28 thousand cases of infectious diseases like Ebola, in just one year.

Last week the Trump administration cancelled almost 60 billion dollars of foreign aid grants and contracts, ending around 90 percent of the agency’s work. But they’re already feeling the pain in South Africa, where charities were blind-sided by the overnight cuts.
