Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic Sinners has received 16 nominations for the 98th Academy Awards on Thursday, setting a record for the most in Oscar history.
Along with best picture, Coogler was nominated for best director and best screenplay, and Michael B. Jordan received his first Oscar nomination, for best actor.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was second in the tally with 13 nominations.
British-Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku and Irish actress Jessie Buckley, were also among those nominated.
Hamnet, the adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning novel about Shakespeare’s family life, was nominated for the best picture.
