How will Canada's next government deal with Trump's trade tariff threats? | DW News

That was Canada’s Justin Trudeau explaining why he’ll resign as prime minister once his Liberal Party has selected a new leader. Mr Trudeau been trailing in the polls for the past year, but his popularity plunged to new lows following December’s surprise resignation of his finance minister, Chrysta Freeland. She accused Mr Trudeau of using costly gimmicks to appease voters.

Justin Trudeau has been in power for almost a decade and is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He came to power in 2015 on a wave of popularity, due to his youthful energy and his policies on combatting climate change.
