Hundreds of schools close over heatwave - as rare red warning looms

Temperatures did not exceed the June record of 35.6C, as Tuesday’s high was 34.6C.

The June record was recorded at Camden Square, London, in 1957 and again at Mayflower Park, Southampton, in 1976.

However it’s likely to be broken this week ahead of rare red warning coming into force.
