Hundreds of schools have remained closed while travel disruption has continued across parts of the UK as temperatures plunged to -12.5C overnight.

National Rail said services would be affected by the snow and ice – with cancellations and delays expected.
Between five and ten centimetres of snow is expected to fall in large parts of northern and northeast Scotland.
Snow, strong winds and rain could hit southern England later this week.
