In the social rented sector, it’s standard practice for housing providers to take out carpets before new tenants move in – even if they are in good condition.
Single mum Ashley, who is a social housing tenant, spoke to ITV News reporter Will Tullis about her concerns for her children’s safety.
She said: "It’s just tough, it’s not the way that you want to live without carpet or flooring at all. When you have kids, you want to make it a home.”
Pia Honey works at No Floor No More, a charity in St Albans which recycles carpets to donate to people who need them. She said: “It is freezing and the kids need safe environments.”
