ITV News meets Kevin Dawes who was thrown into a jail in Syria.
He was tortured, beaten and starved for three years.
Mr Dawes said: "I was hooded and blindfolded and taken to branch 248 the military branch, one of the darkest holes on the face of the earth.
"I was certain i was going to die soon, I didn’t fear it at that point."
But a friendship he formed in prison with Dr Abbas Khan kept him going
