The father of the 14-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by an asylum seeker in Essex says the government has been failing them as a family "relentlessly".
Ethiopian national Hadush Kebatu was jailed in September after sexually assaulting the girl and another woman, just days after arriving in the UK on a small boat.
Kebatu was sentenced to one year in prison, but just a month later, he was wrongly freed.
Speaking anonymously to ITV News to protect his daughter’s identity, the girl’s father said all the government has been doing is "breaking us as a family".
In a written statement shared earlier with ITV News, the girl said she "couldn’t sleep" because she "was so worried he was going to come back to Epping looking for me".
"I didn’t want to be in Epping because I was so scared I was going to see him and he would recognise me," she said.
