A major operation has begun to remove the waste from a giant illegal dump in Oxfordshire. About 21,000 tonnes of mixed domestic and commercial rubbish was dumped in 2025 between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington.

The clean-up, carried out by the tax-funded Environment Agency, will involve the removal of 15-30 lorry loads of the waste each day.
The site was first discovered in June, and the clean-up operation follows months of pressure from the local community. It is expected to take about six months to complete. A criminal investigation is underway to catch the perpetrators of waste crime.
