It is expected to be the biggest shake up of the prison system in decades. Tomorrow the government will reveal the outcome of the independent review into sentencing – rethinking who goes to prison, what for and who can be punished out in the community.
The aim – to release pressure on prisons bursting at the seams, rife with violence and drugs.
We report on HMP Wandsworth, described as a symbol of "the worst of the system".
It has already been given £100 million of extra funding – but for inmates, families and campaigners, change isn’t coming quickly enough.
