Winter pressures continue to cause long waiting times at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) in Belfast.
UTV saw the strain on the facility during exclusive access to the emergency department.
Hannah Rebecca Hanna is a Nurse-in-charge at the emergency department in the RVH.
She said: "The worst things I have seen are these patients lying for days, these elderly frail patients who are becoming more delirious, who potentially have a risk of becoming more unwell."
"There’s patients in lots of non-clinical spaces because the department is overcapacity.
"Patients are having to be nursed in areas that they wouldn’t normally be nursed in.
"This is distressing for patients too as there’s not a lot of privacy or a lot of dignity," she said.
The only space for some patients is on a corridor.
