In South Africa thousands of lions are bred in captivity for trophy hunting. Now, after years of debate on ethics and welfare, the government has approved a plan to end it. It’s a voluntary exit strategy – to shut down the breeding of the animals for commercial purposes. Geraint Vincent visited South Africa to shed light on the future facing the country’s captive lions.
