The whole saga lasted less than six hours but has deeply polarised South Korea, bringing chaos to a country that has been a beacon of democracy in Asia.
It took two attempts and thousands of police officers to take the President into custody and ultimately cost Yoon’s party the next election.
A special prosecutor had requested the death penalty, saying Yoon deserved harsh punishment for the threat his actions posed to the country’s democracy.
