The Royal Navy warship HMS Dragon has departed from Portsmouth and is heading toward Cyprus as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East. The Type 45 destroyer is being deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to help protect British military assets, including RAF Akrotiri, following recent drone attacks linked to the escalating Iran conflict.
HMS Dragon is one of the Royal Navy’s most advanced air-defence destroyers and is equipped to intercept drones and missiles. The deployment comes as Western forces increase their military presence in the region amid fears of further escalation in the war involving Iran.
The ship’s journey to the eastern Mediterranean is expected to take several days as the UK moves to strengthen defenses around its bases and support allied operations in the region.
