President Trump and his Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth have been keen to boast on social media about the successes of what they call Operation Epic Fury in Iran – including claims the United States is "owning the skies".

But so far they’ve made no comment about the downed US fighter jet – although Mr Trump has been briefed on the latest situation.
