Iran has warned it will retaliate if the US launches strikes against the Islamic Republic, as authorities crackdown on protests which have swept across the country.
It comes as activists said the death toll spiked to at least 538 people on Sunday, with at least 10,600 people detained.
Of those killed, 490 are protesters and 48 are members of the security forces, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said, warning the toll is likely to go up.
