The country’s sports minister says it’s no longer able to play, after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US and Israeli strikes.
This comes after President Donald Trump said he had no issue with Iran taking part.
Starting on June 11th, the World Cup is being held in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Iran was due to play its group stage fixtures in American cities.
If the withdrawal is official, FIFA will decide which team takes Iran’s place.
