Fighting has intensified in Sudan in the oil-rich Kordofan area, with thousands of people fleeing the city of el-Obeid.
Experts say the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, are focused on taking the key city, which is the capital of North Kordofan. The state connects the western Darfur region and Sudan’s capital Khartoum.
