After weeks of anti-regime protests in Iran, authorities there have cut off the entire country from the internet and from international telephone calls. The move follows a nighttime demonstration called by Iran’s exiled crown prince, which drew thousands of protesters to the streets across the country. Human rights activists now fear a further crackdown. Meanwhile, Iranian state media have broken their silence over the demonstrations, and described protesters as "terrorist agents” of the US and Israel.
