Is 'political discourse' on asylum a threat to women?

Protests occurred for much of the summer – with communities making it clear that they are unhappy with immigration, with some chanting "save our kids" and calling for the protection of women and girls.

The officer responsible for policing violence against women and girls, deputy assistant commissioner Helen Millichap, says she is "concerned that the message could get missed in the current political discourse."

The real threat "comes from a multitude of things" and "for sexual offences and domestic abuse the vast majority of perpetrators are known to the victim," she adds.

Sky’s Mollie Malone reports on the "system and sector under pressure, with a warning that women and girls are paying the price".
