President Trump has implied he has something significant to say about his war on Iran – by planning a national television address in a few hours’ time.
It could at least clear up some of the usual contradictions at the heart of his pronouncements today. If he’s calling it a day, that won’t come a moment too soon – for his allies in NATO who he threatened to split from.
He’s barred by law – a law first proposed by his Secretary of State, no less, but that hasn’t dimmed his rhetoric. It left Sir Keir Starmer saying he’d pivot to a closer security relationship with Europe. And it is not a moment too soon for the people of Iran.
