There were celebrations across Gaza and Israel as the news broke – with the breakthrough coming on the third day of indirect talks in Egypt.

Trump announced an agreement on social media saying: “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!”

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Later in an interview on Fox News, Trump said Hamas will begin releasing hostages “probably” on Monday.

Some 1,200 people were killed in a Hamas-led attack on October 7 2023, with 251 taken hostage. Israel believes that around 20 of the hostages are still alive.

And since the outbreak of war, more than 67,000 people have been killed in Gaza and nearly 170,000 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
