Nearly two months after their worst nightmare began, a sigh of relief for the families of 50 women and children held hostage by Hamas. In the early hours of Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced a hard-fought deal that will see the release of 50 hostages – in return for a four-day truce as well as the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners. The pause in fighting will also allow for humanitarian aid and fuel to enter the Gaza Strip. Qatar, which helped broker the agreement, said the starting time of the truce would be announced within the next 24 hours.
For more on the deal, we talk to DW’s Middle East Analyst Shani Rozanes; Peter Lerner, a spokesperson for the Israeli military, and Gili Roman, brother of Yarden Roman, a German citizen who was kidnapped with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
