Israelis marked the New Year to the sound of air raid sirens after Hamas militants fired rockets out of Gaza.
Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip also saw little hope for a better year, as Israel’s military said it was planning for a long war to eradicate Hamas, which is considered a terrorist organization by multiple countries.
