The Israel Defence Forces says it has launched an operation against Hamas at al Shifa Hospital.
It described the operation as "precise and targeted" and within a "specified area" of the facility – the largest hospital in Gaza.
Thousands have fled the hospital since the outbreak of the conflict, but around 650 patients and 500 staff – along with around 2,500 displaced Palestinians – are thought to still be there, according to UN estimates.
