Italy sends refugees to Albania

Italy has sent 49 people to Albania as part of a plan to process asylum claims in non-EU countries.

It follows two failed attempts to resume the scheme last year, when a court in Rome ruled that their countries of origin, including Bangladesh and Egypt, were unsafe to be repatriated to.

Critics have called the policy “disgraceful.”
