Former figure skater Nancy Kerrigan spoke to the press after it was confirmed there were no survivors of the mid-air collision between a passenger jet and a helicopter above Washington DC.
Of those killed, there were as many as 14 members of the US figure skating community.
Mrs Kerrigan said it was "tragic" and gave her condolences to the victims and their families.
