Japans elects first female prime minister

Sanae Takaichi has become Japan’s first female prime minister after being elected leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

She is the former protege of the late Shinzo Abe and has twice attempted to become prime minister before.

Sanae was also a TV host and heavy metal drummer for the rock band Bifor-Bifor.
