Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick says Elon Musk had nothing to do with the Conservatives’ decision to call for a full inquiry into child grooming gangs.
Mr Jenrick said it was wrong to suggest the previous government did little to tackle the problem, adding that "more information has come to light with every passing month".
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch is pushing for a national inquiry after Mr Musk used his X platform to launch a barrage of online attacks on the Government over the issue.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer accused politicians of spreading misinformation.
Officials are accused of ignoring claims young girls were being abused by organised groups of Asian men in the town of Rotherham from the late 1980s until 2013.
