Jonathan Van-Tam’s family ‘threatened with having throats cut’, Covid inquiry hears

Jonathan Van-Tam, former deputy chief medical officer, said his family was ‘threatened with having throats cut’ and was advised to move out of his home by police. Van-Tam told the Covid inquiry: ‘I did not expect the police to have to say, ‘Will you move out for a few days while we look at this and potentially make some arrests?’

Van-Tam said he was worried that experiences like his may put people off assuming sensitive jobs. ‘I only make this point because I’m so worried that if there’s a future crisis, people will not want to sign up for these roles,’ he said.
