Josh Cavallo made history when he became the first male footballer in the world in decades to come out as gay while playing top-flight football – but says the men’s game is “going backwards” in efforts to make LGBTQ+ players feel accepted.
Cavallo played for Adelaide United in his native Australia when he announced his sexuality in 2021, but earlier this month swapped the top-tier A-League for a new life in the UK.
