At least 37 people have died and over 200 are missing after sudden heavy rain hit Chasoti in Kishtwar district, Indian Kashmir, marking the second major Himalayan disaster in just over a week.

The flood struck a stop along the Machail Yatra pilgrimage route, washing away a community kitchen and security post where many pilgrims were having lunch. Rescue operations are underway, with police, disaster response teams, and army and air force units at the scene.
