In light of the controversy, the leader of the opposition, Kemi Badenoch, asked Starmer why Rayner was still in office. Starmer said: ‘She has explained her personal circumstances in detail.’ He added that he was proud of Rayner, who ‘has come from a working-class background to be deputy prime minister’
