Kelvin Kiptum: Men’s marathon world record holder dies in car crash

Kelvin Kiptum was the long-distance running champion who smashed the marathon world record last October.

But he has been killed, aged only 24, in a car crash in his native Kenya.

Kiptum was due to compete in the Paris Olympics later this year and would have been a favourite for a gold medal.

His rise to the peak of the sport had been incredibly fast – he only competed in his first full marathon in 2022.
