Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick today defended his controversial comments about "not seeing another white face" during a visit to Handsworth in Birmingham. He said he brought up skin colour because it’s "incredibly important" to have what he called "a fully integrated society".
The remarks were made during a private Conservative dinner party in March which was then leaked. But the Labour leader of Birmingham City Council told ITV News the comments were "divisive" and "racist". Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch today defended her Shadow Justice Secretary insisting they were taken "out of context".
Speaking to ITV News from the Party’s annual conference she said Britain needs to be "an integrated society". And following the Manchester synagogue attack she also hit out about reporting on Gaza, accusing some mainstream broadcasters of "incitement to murder".
