Six MPs have put their names forward to replace Angela Rayner and become Labour’s new Deputy Leader.

The list includes two members of the Government with the frontrunner appearing to be the Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson.
Some Labour MPs are worried that if she secures the backing of large numbers of her colleagues, some – or even all – of the other candidates will struggle to get enough backing to secure their place on the ballot of party members by Thursday’s deadline.
