Labour Party Conference: Burnham pledges change

Andy Burnham used his conference speech to pitch himself to the people and his party as the man to reset and rewire politics.

Driven by the experience of losing his father he asked Brits to back a National Care Service, in part funded by ending the triple lock on pensions as we know it, and adjusting the link to average earnings from year on year to over time. Pensions would still rise, but not as much.
Admitting he may pay a political price he insisted somebody had to take on the big decisions.

He declared Brexit has caused ‘more harm than good’ and intends to look at a new deal with Europe with all options including rejoining on the table.

He arrived looking like he was relishing it, but on stage he was, for a moment, engulfed by the emotion of talking about his father

Is it the leadership Britain needs or, as one union boss has warned, electoral suicide?
