Labour taking Diane Abbott’s new comments about racism ‘incredibly seriously’

Labour has said it’s taking new comments from the MP Diane Abbot "incredibly seriously" – after she defended the statements she made in 2023 denying that travellers, Jewish and Irish people suffered from racism – which got her suspended from the party.

At the time, Abbot issued an apology and claimed that the remarks had been sent to a newspaper in error. But in remarks published today, she said she didn’t regret it at all.
