Labour to force councils to hit house building targets

More building will be allowed on the green belt under a major shake-up of the planning rules unveiled today by the Prime Minister.

Sir Keir Starmer says providing homes must take priority over nature and the environment.

Local councils in England have been given mandatory targets to deliver a total of 370,000 homes a year.

And if they don’t, he says the government will push developments through.
