Labour to restore winter fuel payments to 9 million pensioners

It’s almost a year since the newly-elected government took the hugely unpopular decision to remove winter fuel payments from all but the poorest pensioners.

Today, the Chancellor said she had listened and is restoring the payment to the vast majority of pensioners this winter.

But where will the money come from and does this u-turn come too late to undo the political damage?
