Buildings in south-west Iceland caught fire after a volcanic eruption, the second in less than a month.
The eruption sent semi-molten rock towards the nearby settlement. Construction had begun to build barriers of earth and rock to prevent lava reaching Grindavík, but it did not appear to have worked. The local authorities declared an emergency and all people living in the town have left
