Le Pen banned from running in French election

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen will be banned from running for office for five years, which rules her out of the 2027 presidential race.

She also faces a jail sentence of two years, subject to an appeals process.
Le Pen was found guilty of embezzling EU funds and is accused of siphoning off millions of euros to pay for party staff. The leader and other party staff members deny any wrongdoing.
