Two sisters have told ITV News what happened to them and their mother, on board the train that came off the rails in Sussex last week.
The three had been returning from a trip to celebrate A-level results, when the accident happened outside Lewes.
The mother is still recovering from her injuries.
Recovery work has started in East Sussex – but ITV News has been told it will take weeks to repair.
The railway between Lewes and Haywards Heath will remain closed “for at least another ten days”, following the derailment – which left 20 people injured, two seriously.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of track on Thursday afternoon (13 August) when the three carriages of the Southern service from London Victoria to Eastbourne derailed, tipped onto their sides – and slipped down the embankment.
Investigators have now left the scene, but Network Rail and Southern Rail say it will be ‘particularly difficult’ – to reopen the railway and remove the stranded carriages.
