Sir Ed Davey has insisted the Liberal Democrats are a party of "local activists" that "get things done" for communities.
At the launch of their local elections campaign that saw him race hobbyhorses, the party leader denied the public will view them as an unserious party.
He said: "They know that sometimes it’s right politicians don’t take themselves too seriously, and the message here was that it’s a two-horse race [with the Tories]."
