Sir Jim Ratcliffe told Sky’s economics and data editor Ed Conway that the UK has been "colonised by immigrants" and this is "costing too much money".
Speaking to Sky News, culture secretary Lisa Nandy responded by saying that people “deserve an immigration system that they can trust”.
"My dad comes from an immigrant background,” she says. "I want your viewers to know that I am really proud that Britain is a diverse and tolerant country that is strengthened by waves of immigration.”
