Luxembourg’s Grand Duke Henri has abdicated after 25 years on the throne and has passed the role as head of the small European state to his son, Guillaume.
The new Grand Duke, who is 43, was sworn in at Luxembourg’s parliament ahead of an event tonight which will be attended by a number of European royals and leaders.
Luxembourg is the world’s only sovereign Grand Duchy and since the system was established in 1815, it has had only ten monarchs.
