The counting process is underway in the Makerfield by-election – set to be one of the most consequential by-elections in British political history.
Fourteen candidates stood for the seat, which became vacant after Labour’s Josh Simons resigned.
Labour’s candidate in the Greater Manchester constituency, Andy Burnham, is hoping to return to Parliament to replace Sir Keir Starmer as prime minister if he wins.
Ahead of polling, he urged people to "vote to change politics" and vowed to take the "fight as high as I can possibly take it".
