Man arrested as car strikes pedestrians during Liverpool FC parade injuring dozens | ITV News

A number of people have been injured after a car struck fans during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade through the city – with a British man detained.

Footage of the incident which was circulating online appeared to show the vehicle speed up as it veered into pedestrians on both sides of Water Street, in Liverpool.

Officers surrounded the car very soon after, as witnesses attempted to stop the driver, who was eventually detained by police shortly after 6pm.

The suspect, a 53-year-old white, British man from the Liverpool area was detained, and it is understood Counter Terrorism Policing North West are supporting Merseyside Police.

Dozens have been injured in the incident, with images showing some being taken away on stretchers, while a paramedic told police he believed the Liverpool Royal Hospital may be overwhelmed.
