The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, was told there could be a "general reputational risk" over Peter Mandelson’s relations with Jeffrey Epstein – before he was appointed as UK ambassador to the United States.

Details emerged in the first tranche of documents linked to Mandelson’s appointment, released by the government today.

Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones, said lobbying and access to government officials would be thoroughly reviewed – along with the national security vetting system.
