The Sahel region in Africa is the world’s terrorism epicentre, accounting for over half of all global terrorism deaths, according to the 2025 Global Terrorism Index.

These extremist groups are using national parks to spread their reach, and taking advantage of instability and geopolitical tensions to increase their power and presence in the region.

Sky’s Yousra Elbagir explains how these violent groups work, and what’s being done to stop them.
